Whether for a single summer or for many seasons to come, employment in Grand Teton National Park provides a unique and gratifying experience in one of the most beautiful and rugged areas in the world. While the work is demanding and the summer cannot be considered a vacation, the recreational opportunities available in your off-time are limited only by your imagination. A genuine interest in the Park and a positive attitude toward Guest Service is essential in providing an exceptional experience for our visitors. About the Company

Operating dates for the 2010 summer season are from May-October. Grand Teton Lodge Company operates visitor accommodations and services in Grand Teton National Park under a concession contract with the National Park Service. The company also operates the Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club, which is located a few minutes away from the Jackson Hole Airport.

Hours and Wages

Grand Teton Lodge Company follows the minimum wage provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act as well as applicable Wyoming state laws. Wages compare favorably with those paid by other seasonal National Park concessionaires.

  • Most entry-level positions pay $7.56 per hour.

  • Work schedules vary but in most cases are six days (between 40-48 hours) per week.
  • Overtime pay for seasonal hourly employees occurs after 48 hours per week.
  • Based on business levels, work schedules may vary and the Company is under no obligation to provide a work schedule for any definite number of hours during any day or week. Day(s) off may fall on any day(s) during the week.
  • Tipped employees may have certain types of tips that are paid through payroll; otherwise, employees are required to maintain accurate records of tips received and report such income to the Company.

Drug Free Workplace

Grand Teton Lodge Company is committed to providing a drug-free workplace. Employees will be required to submit to a drug and/or alcohol test under the following conditions: after a work-related injury or incident, random selection, suspicion of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Refusal to submit to a test or a positive test will result in termination of employment.

Housing

There are no facilities for families. Employees are encouraged not to bring valuable possessions. Due to limited spacing, overnight visitors are not permitted. Smoking is not permitted in any Grand Teton Lodge Company facility. Housing regulations are strictly enforced and if you are not willing to adhere to these requirements, please do not apply.

Dormitories – Seasonal employees at Jackson Lake Lodge and Colter Bay Village are housed in furnished dormitories with heat and central inside bathrooms. Employees at Jenny Lake Lodge are housed in cabins with bathroom facilities nearby. All employees share a room with one or more fellow employees. Some rooms and cabins accommodate up to four people. Dormitory housing is provided at no charge. Pets are not allowed in any of the Company's housing facilities.

R.V. Park – Our employee R.V. park has a limited number of sites available. These are suitable only for fully self-contained R.V.'s. A daily rate of $6.00 per site provides water, electric, and sewer hookups plus laundry and shower facilities. Employees living in R.V.'s are allowed to bring a pet if they are able to comply with the guidelines established by the Company.

Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club – Apartments, shared by several employees are available for rent for selected positions only. Pets are not allowed. R.V. sites are not available. Please note on your application if you have housing in Jackson.
Security/Confirmation Deposit – New employees must submit a $100 security/confirmation deposit when they send in their reply notice. Returning employees pay their deposits through payroll deductions upon arrival. Deposits are refunded on a separate paycheck following proper completion of the check-out process.

Housing Rules

Employees of different ages and interests reside in the Company housing areas. To ensure a comfortable living environment, the following rules apply:

  • Inspections – Employee dormitory rooms are subject to inspection in order to ensure compliance with all applicable safety, health and fire codes.
  • Drinking/Drugs – All Wyoming and Federal laws are enforced. These include use of illegal substances and drinking by minors, under 21. The employee villages are regularly patrolled by the National Park Service rangers, the company security staff, and anyone violating these laws may be subject to arrest and termination.
  • Guests – Housing, recreational and laundry facilities are for employee use only.
  • Noise – Quiet hours are designated for the employee village. However, due to the number of employees who work various shifts, loud parties or disturbances will not be tolerated at anytime.
  • Damage – Employees are held responsible for the condition of their room, dormitory and the village. Employees will be charged for the repair and/or replacement of any damaged or defaced items.

Grooming Standards

All employees must maintain a neat, conservative and well-groomed appearance while on duty and/or in uniform. Facial piercings such as nose, brows, chin, lip, and tongue are not acceptable. Hats worn on duty must have GTLC related logos only. All tattoos must be covered by uniform or clothing. No extreme hairstyles such as - dreadlocks, multi-colored and/or bright hair colors are allowed. These standards must be met upon arrival.

Male employees: Hair must be neat, clean, conservative and a natural color. Hair may not extend below the rear top of a standard dress shirt collar, must not protrude into the face, and cannot be in a ponytail. Facial hair is limited to sideburns extending no lower than the bottom of the earlobe and neatly trimmed mustaches. Beards and goatees are not permitted. Earrings are not permitted while on duty.

Female employees: Hair must be neat, clean, conservative and a natural color. Earrings are limited to no more than three earrings per ear, not to exceed a nickel in diameter..

Medical Attention

Health insurance is not provided by the Company. Work-related injuries are covered by state-maintained Worker's Compensation Insurance. A medical clinic is located at Jackson Lake Lodge and a hospital is in the town of Jackson. If you are under medical care we encourage you to consult with your doctor prior to applying as you will be working at an elevation of approximately 6,800 feet.

Transportation

Employees are responsible for their own transportation costs. Please consider the cost of round-trip transportation before accepting a position. Private automobiles are allowed. If you are arriving by plane or bus, please contact the Human Resources office at least two weeks prior to your arrival date. We will provide transportation from the Jackson Hole Airport and the town of Jackson.

Church Services

Catholic, Protestant and LDS services are held each Sunday at Jackson Lake Lodge, nearby churches and Park Service amphitheaters. Services are scheduled at various times and regular attendance should be possible without interfering with work schedules.

Applying for a position

  • A list of recruiting and interview locations may be obtained by contacting the Human Resources Department.

  • Two professional or personal references may be attached to your application if requested during the interview process.
  • A minimum age of 18 is required for all employees housed in company-maintained facilities.
  • Depending upon the position, various starting and ending dates may be able to be accommodated. Preference will be given to those applicants who can remain through September 6th or are able to work until the close of our operations.
  • There are no employee housing facilities for families.
  • Positions beginning in August and September may also be available.
  • Most positions are physically demanding and require lifting, bending, standing, and kneeling. Please refer to the relevant job descriptions.
  • If we are unable to offer you a position upon receiving your application, we may post new openings as they become available and you should check the website regularly.
  • International applicants wishing to work under H-2B visas must have applications to us by February 1, 2010 to allow time for processing the necessary paperwork.

Accepting a position 

  • If we are able to offer you employment, you will receive a job offer letter outlining your position, wage, start date and expected end date, and other information. Please do not accept our employment offer unless you intend to work a full season.

  • All employees must be willing to perform duties as assigned. The Company reserves the right to modify positions, duties, location, and hours.
  • Upon arrival for work, all new and returning employees must present valid documentation that meets the requirements of the federal government's I-9 form. Important Information 

  • The Company normally has over 400 returning employees each year. Therefore, for the best opportunity, we suggest applying for at least three positions.
  • Outdoor positions are extremely limited.
  • Supervisory and managerial positions are available in all departments.
    Prior to being hire for a job, applicants who are offered positions in the following jobs must successfully complete a background check: security, accounting, floats, wranglers, excursion boat captains, bus drivers, human resources, and IT.
